Renters’ Uniforms

recycled felt moving blankets, webbing, aluminum climbing fasteners, boulder (spray foam, chicken wire, acrylic paint, marking spray paint, glitter).

The Renters’ Uniforms are uniforms for our future selves. These unisex tunics are designed for maximum comfort and multifunction in a variety of weather conditions. The belts can be repurposed as moving harnesses for use in collaboration with others. This allows the wearer to move heavy objects without the use of other tools. These uniforms were exhibited in the Wut Guise fashion show curated by Kayleigh Nelson for the Ford Building. For the event, a custom boulder was created to showcase the dual function of the Renters Uniforms. This boulder can also be a giant brain, a meteor, a giant piece of poop, or the embodiment of the weight the precariat carries on a regular basis.
